The Emerging News reported on November 20: In FY 2021/22, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development and the Department of Statistics, with technical support from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), conducted a comprehensive survey of large- and medium-scale livestock farms in Nepal. The main objective of the survey was to investigate key indicators related to livestock size and characteristics, and to measure commercial livestock farms in Nepal from economic, social and technical dimensions.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, there are 6,486 commercial livestock farms in Nepal, of which one-fifth are in the First and Gandaki Provinces, mainly 2,295 (35%) sheep/goat farms, 1,233 (19%) dairy farms, 914 buffalo farms (14%), etc.
