The Pyramid website, August 25, Egypt’s Central Authority for Mobilization and Statistics data show that Egypt’s cotton production reached 2.3 million kanthal (about 117,000 tons) in 2021, an increase of 33% year-on-year. Cotton exports reached 1.7 million kanthal (about 86,000 tons) up 101.5% year-on-year, with Egypt’s top cotton exporter being India, accounting for 87% of its total cotton exports. Due to the increase in exports, the amount of cotton consumed domestically decreased by 31%.
